Baxter Springs Historical Museum The Baxter Springs Historical Museum is filled with exhibits depicting the various stages of the city's history from the days of the Osage Indians through the Civil War and the lead and zinc mining era. Enjoy twenty thousand square feet of climate controlled historical exhibits for your pleasure. Experience an authentic Victorian Parlor; Visit the reconstructed pre-Civil War Cabin; Visit a full scale replica of a Tri-State lead and zinc mine; See Wedding Finery through the years; Walk the wooden sidewalks of historical Military Road, and visit the Blacksmith Shop. See American Wars Exhibits, area Indian Culture, and Civil War.

Black Dog Trail Marker

Located on the grounds of the Historical Museum, the marker commemorates the Black Dog Trail opened in 1803 by Chief Black Dog ( Manka - Chonka) and his band of Osage Indians who had a village nearby where springs once flowed freely.
