11 - 12 Kingfisher County Spring Livestock Show - The Kingfisher Chamber of Commerce, the Kingfisher County Fairboard, and the Kingfisher County Commissioners are pleased to offer this show to the 4-H and FFA members of Kingfisher County. If you enjoy participating in this show, please remember to thank these individuals and the other business men and women in your community, who unselfishly give their time and/or monetary support to you. With their continued investments, it is possible to continue this show for the same reasons and in the same manner in which it was started 86 years ago---for the youth of Kingfisher County.

29 Independence Day Celebration - A "Star Spangled Celebration" will be held in Kingfisher beginning with The Independence Day Parade at 10 a.m.. Enjoy a free swim at Kingfisher Aquatic Center from 12-4 p.m.. Events at Kingfisher Park @ 5 p.m., include face painting, turtle races, balloon toss, coin dig, watermelon feed, and free concert immediately followed by a fantastic fireworks show set to music at dark. There will be great food, great music, games and fun for everyone.

View our exquisitely lit, 100 year old swinging bridge and many more beautifully designed displays. And as always . . . admission is FREE!

Opening Day is Saturday after Thanksgiving. Kingfisher in Lights operates through December 26th. Every night of the week is illuminated by the spirit of Christmas.

13 - 12 Christmas at the Governor Seay Mansion and the Museum Village - Visit the Governor Seay mansion decorated for Christmas. During this special open house you can tour all the rooms in the mansion. Spiced tea, coffee and cookies will be served. You can also enjoy the Christmas carols being sung in the music room. The Chisholm Trail Museum will celebrate an old fashioned Christmas with the log cabins, church, bank and school house decorated for your enjoyment.

Gant School House

From the start the settlers of Oklahoma made provisions for eduction. The proceeds form sections six and thirty-six of each township were reserved for schools. There were country schools every three miles with names like Pleasant Valley, Good Hope, or in this case Gant.

Kingfisher, OK Historic Schoolhouses

Land Office Building/ Post Office

This was the United States Land Office site for filing claims at the opening of "Old Oklahoma," April 22, 1889, and also at the opening of the Cheyenne and Arapaho lands on April 19, 1892. J.C. Roberts was the first Register, and J.V. Admire, the first Receiver.

Kingfisher, OK Historic Buildings

Cole Cabin

A more ordinary settler family was that of Samuel and Dorothy Cole. They built this cabin southeast of Hennessey in 1890. It was built of oak logs cut on the farm and hauled to the building site in a wagon drawn by a yoke of oxen.

Dalton Cabin

In 1889, the parents of the Dalton gang - Adaline Younger Dalton and James Lewis Dalton - planned to move to Oklahoma. Mr. Dalton died on the way, leaving Adaline with three young children to raise: Nancy, Leona, and Simon. An older, feeble-minded son named Charles Benjamin accompanied them.

Senator Bowman Home

Among the many sites of interests in and around Kingfisher, one is the Historical Home of Senator George and Edna Bowman. Mrs. Bowman, still residing in the home is always ready to share the history and story of their life in Kingfisher and in Oklahoma.
