6 Celebrate Pierce City grand openings - On May 1, 2004, the Pierce City Chamber of Commerce will kick off a month of events to "Celebrate Pierce City." May 1st will see the ribbon cuttings and grand openings of several Pierce City businesses rebuilt after the May 2003 tornado damage. Flummerfelt's Town and Country Supermarket, Thompson Family Drug, Freda Mae's, and others will participate in the grand openings.

The day will feature an old-fashioned drawing hosted by Carol Sue Hirsch at the rebuilt bandstand at 1 p.m. Live music will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the bandstand after a re-dedication ceremony at 12:20 p.m.

Tickets for the drawing will be available at local businesses. Many area residents will recall Saturday afternoon drawings at the bandstand in Pierce City to be a regular and well-attended event.

19 Fern's Tavern Presents Terry Dean - Country singer Terry Dean will perform at Fern's Tavern on May 14, 2004, from 8 p.m. to midnight.

20 Talented Pierce Citians - "Talented Pierce Citians" aka "Celebrate Pierce City Talent" is an event scheduled for May 15, 2004, at the Harold Bell Wright Museum.

This event is a showcase for the many talents local residents possess including traditional artwork, crafts, cooking and baking, and many more unusual talents.

Museum board representatives will be on hand to answer questions about the museum, housed in the first church that well-known author Harold Bell Wright was pastor of.

18 Thank You Picnic - By: Kristin Nama

A gathering will be held in Pierce City's South Park to say thank you to everyone who has helped the town recover from the May 4, 2003, tornado that damaged much of the town.

Cake will be served and the town will have the opportunity to make good on Mayor Mark Peters' promise made last spring to have everyone back for a big thank you party.

Let us say thank you for helping the town of Pierce City!

Cake and other refreshments will be served in Pierce City's South Park at an event to say thank you to everyone who has helped the town in any way to work towards recovery from damaged sustained in the May 4, 2003, tornado.
