Milwaukee Railroad Shops Historic District

One of Iowa's best collections of steam-era railroad buildings, including a roundhouse with turntable, wood sand tower, and five other structures. See Great Northern Railway Steam Locomotive No. 1355 and other railroad artifacts. This 31.5-acre site is under reconstruction for conversion to a National Historic District. The annual Ag-Rail Festival is held the third weekend in August and commemorates the rich agricultural and railroad heritage of Western Iowa with displays of antique farm tractors and vintage farm machinery, demonstrations of oat threshing, an antique tractor pull and more.
