River Country Nature Center

category : Museums
River Country Nature Center Visitors are invited to take a walk on the wild side at the River County Nature Center. More than 400 preserved specimen of birds, fish, mammals, amphibians, and reptiles are on display at the center. The wildlife displayed are native to Nebraska, including a new Nebraska Albino Animal Display.

A 70-by-8 foot mural of Nebraska serves as a backdrop for the displays. Created by 15 local artists, the painting highlights a variety of the state's geographical attractions. The animals are grouped in families and common situations, and they're placed appropriately against the backdrop of the mural.

The center boasts many unique and scarce animals. While the focus is the animals of Nebraska, there are many exotic and hard-to-find specimen.

A collection of rocks, minerals, and fossils from southeast Nebraska make up the geology display. A gift shop offers many handcrafted unique items.
