Front Street

category : Historic Downtowns
Front Street Front Street is a replica front of some typical businesses along a street in an old western town such as Ogallala, with a museum, saloon, restaurant, and gift shop inside.

The museum depicts the era when Ogallala reigned as "Queen of the Cowtowns." In addition to an undertaker's parlor, jail, and barber shop, there are interpretive displays about Ogallala's infamous days as the End of the Texas Trail.

Now you can relive this rip-roaring era along the famed street of old. Push aside those swinging doors of the Crystal Palace and suddenly it is 1875. Walk right up to the old bar, put a foot on the brass rail, cock an elbow and down a cold mug of red-eye or sarsaparilla. The trail dust washes down and you relax ... Now you are tappin' your toe to the tune of a tinkling piano. Pretty saloon gals are smiling at you, and already you are forgetting how mean and contrary those 2,000 head of Longhorns were you helped trail in from the brush country of Texas. The houselights dim and the stage of the Crystal Palace fills with the prettiest gals west of the Missouri River ... and the Front Street show is on its way!

Evening entertainment during the summer months begins with a shootout on the street followed by a lively musical on stage in the Crystal Palace Saloon, featuring cowboys and dance hall girls.
