The equestrian statue is a composite of both the Confederate and Union soldier. Austin Dennis fought for the South and Davis Dennis fought for the North. The horse represents "Turk", on which Davis rode back to Missouri after the conclusion of the Civil War. A monument to the Battle of Marshall is also located nearby with a list of Confederate veterans buried in the cemetery.
