Event Details

On display at the Wakefield Museum, during the month of June, is a collection once belonging to a local Wakefield resident, Evelyn (Gaston) Hawes. Evelyn Gaston performed as a "Reader of Plays" with the REDPATH-HORNER CHAUTAUQUA BUREAU in the mid 1920s and early 1930s. The collection was given to the Museum by Evelyn's children after her death. It is possibly the largest collection of Chautauqua Memorabilia in Kansas.

In addition to the display, on Monday, June 7th, at 10:00 AM and again Tuesday, June 8th, at 10:00 AM, a power point presentation will be given. This presentation will include personal photos, hand written notes, Chautauqua advertisements and articles too fragile to be put on display. Ramona Printz-Smith, a friend of the Museum, will perform a re-enactment of either "The Patsy" or "My Lady's Dress", one of two plays Evelyn was most noted for.

This presentation at the museum will be given only two times.

Regular Museum Hours are 1:00-4:00 pm Wed. thru Sun. The Museum is Handicapped Accessible.
