Opened in 1924 at a cost of $1.5 million, the Francis Marion Hotel was the largest and grandest in the Carolinas. Named for General Francis Marion, the "Swamp Fox" of the American Revolution and recently re-opened after a $15 million National Trust award-winning restoration, the Francis Marion is once again Charleston's Grand Hotel.
