27 2014 Health Fair - Vendors will be on-site with a focus on health education and the promotion of wellness within our community. The Phelps Memorial Health Fair is held in conjunction with Healthy Communities Week and is open to everyone at no charge. 8:00-11:00 am.

Educational health-related displays, hands-on demonstrations, samples and giveaways and educational presentations will be offered throughout the morning.

Various health screenings will also be available to attendees. We hope to see you there!

Bargains on Byway - The 2015 bargains road, HWY 136, from Franklin to Bloomington is closed for the summer and we are in need of a coordinator.

We will regroup . . . and . . . reopen Bargains on Byways in 2016, so pencil us in on your calendar.

A three days of sales in businesses, garage & yard sales in 16 towns over 9 counties in South Central Nebraska.

A nine-county area of Nebraska's Frontier Trails Region is again organizing it's Annual Bargains on Byways, a three-day event where there will be open stores, garage and yard sales, antiques to be found, . . . and a bargain or two along the way.

The Bargains on Byways Vendor Guide will be available the first of June. You will be able to pick up your copy in advance or during your road trip to any Bargains on Byways town.

The Bargains on Byways Vendor Guide will detail all participating towns. Vendor sites will be mapped and listed within each town. Each vendor listing provides a brief description of their treasures and the times they will be open.

14 - 15 Dala Days - During Dala Days, “Dala Horses” will be on display throughout Holdrege. The Dala Horse is a popular souvenir and recognized as an unofficial symbol of Sweden. Shoppers have the chance to win $100 in Chamber Bucks by shopping at participating businesses from June 1 through June 18.

A Dala Days card will be given to customers at participating businesses, which is stamped when purchases are made. After $100 of purchases the card can be filled out and entered in the drawing. Each business will have a box for them to be placed in or they can be dropped off at the Chamber office.

Winners will be announced during the Swedish Days Parade. All winners will receive $100 in Chamber Bucks which they can pick up at the announcer’s stand immediately following the parade or at My Fair Lady’s Fashions/Americana Plus. Unclaimed winners will be notified the following week, and Chamber Bucks can be picked up at the Chamber office.

15NE0419015e009 - Holdrege Silver Run - Phelps Memorial Health Center joins with the YMCA of the Prairie of Holdrege, Family Medical Specialties and High Plains Clinic in organizing the annual Silver Run to promote wellness and physical fitness for men and women of all ages. The race is conducted in conjunction with Holdrege's Swedish Days Celebration.

The date for the 2014 event is Saturday, June 21, at the Holdrege North Park on the south side, beginning at 7:00am.

Race brochures will be available after May 10, and may be obtained by contacting Keri Berry, Director of Public Relations and Education. - (below)

The annual event includes men's and women's races at the following distances: 10K run, 5K run, 2 mile run, and 2 mile walk.

All courses are USA Track and Field Sanctioned and Certified. All proceeds raised for the race will be donated to the YMCA of the Prairie in Holdrege.

Early registration is $25 per person through midnight on Thursday, June 19.

Beginning on Friday, June 20, the registration is $30 per participant.

T-shirts and packets will be available for pick-up at Phelps Memorial the evening of Friday, June 20.

Trophies are awarded to the 1st place finishers in each event, in addition, medals are awarded to the top finishers in each of these age categories for men and women:

15 and under
16 to 19
20 to 24
30 to 34
35 to 39
40 to 49
50 to 59
60 and over

15 Heartland Cruisers Show and Shine Car Show - The Heartland Cruisers' Swedish Days Show & Shine is held on Saturday in conjunction with the Swedish Festival - Midsommarfest. 1 PM to 4 PM, Trophies at 3:30. Those showing cars will be admitted free to the street dance that evening beginning at 5:00.
