Ice was harvested from the McFarland Lake and stored in this lovely old stone barn built in 1896.

It was built for James McFarland who was in the ice buisiness.

Higgie Family Homes

The Higgie family was a founding family with 10 children (5 of whom settled in Girard). Captain John and three sons were ship captains on the Great Lakes. In 1883, they purchased 80 acres in northwest Girard and named it the "Higgie Addition."
