Joanne T. Rainsford Region 2 Discovery Center

The Region 2 Discovery Center offers you an opportunity to explore the history and modern day landscape of Abbeville, Edgefield, Greenwood and McCormick counties. The 6,000 square foot museum is filled with exhibits that take you from the natural landscape and settlement in the region to the politics that have shaped the history of the four counties. Exhibits interpret the military history of the region, the story of cotton, the influence of mill villages, and the key people who influenced the region. The Modern Landscape exhibit offers a virtual bike tour of the back roads and freshwater coast of the Heritage Corridor, making it a must visit.



The Center features rotating exhibit space and hosts special events monthly. Finally, the Region 2 Center features a unique gift shop that features local and regional artists, Palmetto- themed merchandise and books about the state or written by South Carolina authors.



The Discovery Center is child friendly and the staff is knowledgeable about the local history and ready to help you discover the region. From lodging and eating to recreation and family fun spots, the Discovery Center will be your passport to discovering the South Carolina National Heritage Corridor.
