Event Details

The Lillian Gish Film Festival honors the pioneer silent film star in the city where she was born on Oct. 14,1893. Gish, whose 75-year career began in 1912 with "An Unseen Enemy" and continued to 1987 with a role in "The Whales of August," made her first appearance in the play "The Little Red Schoolhouse" in 1902 in Rising Sun, Wood County. The theater at Bowling Green State University is named for the Gish sisters, Lillian and Dorothy.

Lillian Gish was the first female screen actress to perform serious roles. She starred in many of famed director D.W. Griffith's films. One of her last silent screen roles was in "The Wind" (1928), which is regarded as a movie classic.
