Sooner Lake , OK

Sooner Lake is one of Oklahoma's premier bass lakes. In fact, the first Oklahoma stocking of Florida's occurred in 1977 at Sooner Lake. This power plant lake offers great fishing, and is known for excellent hybrid striped bass fishing. Its primary use is a cooling reservoir for the coal fired electric generating plant, but its recreation opportunities make it fun place for the family to spend the day. It is also a prime birding area. It is a classic prairie reservoir which harbors abundant waterfowl and prairie birds. Facilities include boat ramps, picnic tables, restrooms and a swimming beach. Sooner Lake is typically a good bet for stripers and wipers.

At 5,400 acres, it's is smaller than most hybrid lakes but has produced several state records in the past. For those Bank-fishermen who don't mind a one mile and a quarter hike there is an area where you can park off of Highway 177 and take the path to the discharge area located at the northwest end of the lake.
