Girard, KS MemorialsThe oldest grave marker in the cemetery is of Mary Frances Crawford. The friends of Historic Girard has placed a new monument at this sight. Dr. Strong is buried here, along with many founding family names. It is worth a walk around to see how many you can see.
Girard, KS CemeteriesThis is the home of Socialist lawyer, author, and lecturer, Henry Laurens Call. Call built the first airplane west of the Mississippi River in 1908. It was called the "Girard Airship", dubbed by the townspeople as the "Mayfly" because, "it may fly!" It didn't. Call built fourteen planes in all.
