25 - 26 Corks and Forks at Grant Park Summer Shade Festival - Historic Grant Park Welcomes City’s Top Chefs! It has been hard waiting all year, but Corks & Forks, presented by Lincoln, is almost here and once again welcomes some of Atlanta’s best chefs to share their favorite dishes. Held during the Grant Park Summer Shade Festival, Corks & Forks is an afternoon of delicious fare paired with an enticing selection of wines and beers. 25 - 26 Grant Park Summer Shade Festival - It wouldn't be summer without the Grant Park Summer Shade Festival presented each year by the Grant Park Conservancy. With a juried and a non-juried Artist Market, two stages of live music, an amazing Sunday Farmers Market, plenty to eat and drink and special areas for kids, the Summer Shade Festival welcomes visitors to enjoy one of Atlanta's most beautiful public greenspaces.

This festival has earned a reputation as the place to see some of the hottest up-and-coming bands as well as a plethora of local talent with two stages and a music line-up that only gets better with each year! The Artist Market includes everything from statement jewelry to sculpture to wall art from hundreds of artists who will be onsite throughout the weekend, so that unique piece is just around the corner. In the Kids Zone, you’ll find crafts, entertainment and interactive activities galore. Don’t miss this great weekend in beautiful, historic Grant Park.

Summer Shade kicks off each year with the Adams Realtors 5K Run for the Park, allowing runners and walkers to enjoy the beautiful historic neighborhood on foot. And during the festival, Corks & Forks: A Fine Food & Wine Event welcomes several of the city’s best chefs to show off their abilities and favorite recipes to attendees who also get to enjoy wines and beers from around the world along with cooking demos and wine seminars. Select chefs at Corks & Forks will compete in the annual Steak Cook-Off, showing off their grilling skills on meat from White Oak Pastures.

25 NBAF Spotlight Series Performance and Conversation with Step Afrika! – “Symphony in Step” - National Black Arts Festival presents Step Afrika!, celebrating its 20th anniversary with a special Atlanta performance. Step Afrika! is a Washington DC-based company that has paved the way as the first professional company in the world dedicated to the African-derived tradition of stepping, popularized in films like “Drumline” (2002) and “Stomp the Yard” (2007). Based on a new musical score and through its performance of “Symphony in Step,” Step Afrika! offers Atlanta audiences a groundbreaking merger of stepping and classical music in partnership with a local symphony orchestra and gospel choir.

September

1 - 3 Art in the Park - This September, the annual Art in the Park returns to historic Marietta Square with loads of creative outdoor fun for the entire family as well as several new features this year like the Artcar Palooza and a 3-D Artist Exhibition. The Chalk Art Competition will also be back.

Art in the Park takes place Labor Day weekend. This outdoor event boasts plenty of enjoyment for all ages with a large Artist Market, the Children’s Art Alley, famous Painted Pots, historic sites and nearby dining.

The event will also feature a Chalk Art Competition. All ages are welcome to participate, as are professional level artists. Participants will have the opportunity to “Chalk it up!” with dynamic chalk art works in randomly selected sidewalk squares. These works will be judged at the end of the day and will remain on display throughout the festival. – interested participants can preregister (contact Emily Ryals, 770-528-1444x16, education@mariettacobbartmuseum.org). The competition is co-sponsored with the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art, and everyone is welcome to compete.

In the spacious Artist Market, attendees this year will be delighted by the range of artists new to the festival who offer a high level of fine art in media including jewelry made from fine metals and precious stones; ceramics; paintings in watercolor, acrylic, oil and pastel; woodworking; glass; photography; textiles and much more. Of course, everyone’s favorite artists from past years will be back too! In fact, the 175 artists showcasing one-of-a-kind works and commissions represent the best of the best at Cobb County’s only annual fine art show. The affordable original artwork is offered in a variety of price ranges and styles.

Art in the Park is also excited to about the addition of a 3-D Artist Exhibition and an Art Supply Round-Up for local non-profits.

Since 2007, the event has been honored as a Southeast Tourism Society Top 20 Event, is ranked 81st in the nation in the Classic and Contemporary Craft Shows by Sunshine Artist Magazine and has also earned awards from the Southeast Festivals and Events Association and the International Festivals and Events Association.

14 NBAF Gallery Hop II: “Intersecting Disciplines: Visual/Art/Dance” - National Black Arts Festival closes its 2015 season program with a second experience that intersects the disciplines of dance and visual arts with a tour of local galleries. Subscribers are offered a hosted private reception, viewing and tour of the current exhibition, given the opportunity to meet artists, socialize and enjoy dance performances by local dancers featuring different form of traditional, social, modern and contemporary dance at each venue. Brown during his residency in Cuba, Malpaso's performances at the Joyce Theater in New York and throughout the United States have been critically acclaimed for their powerful embodiment of the passion that defines Cuban life and its rich dance tradition. 15 Marietta StreetFest - The Marietta Museum of History presents Marietta StreetFest, a one-day event with a top-notch arts & crafts market and antique alley, the Family Fun Zone, the Hubcaps and History Classic Car Show, Trash or Treasure (a verbal approximation by a local antiques expert that lets people know what they truly have), fresh produce at the Marietta Square Farmers Market and a chance to visit the delightful neighborhood restaurants, shops and historic sites found around the Square. The Marietta Grassroots Festival will provide music featuring original sounds. Visitors the day of StreetFest will also receive free admission to the Marietta Museum of History.
