Girard, Kansas

The Museum of Crawford County is housed in the old Episcopal Church built in 1886-1888, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The beautiful stained glass windows of the museum enclose vintage clothing, artifacts , and local photographs.

As the museum has continued to grow, buildings were added to house farming implement displays, large exhibits and furniture displays.

Huey Helicopter & Veteran's Memorial

Drop by an see one of the nation's largest American Flags (30' x 60' - 130' high). While you can see the flag from your vehicle, you really must stand under the Big Flag to appreciate its true size, 130 feet high above the Kansas prairie honoring all war veterans.

A. Wayland Home

The Wayland home was built in 1887, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was built by the Higgie family who used only the finest lumber for the home. In 1896, a Socialist, J.S. Wayland, and the founder and editor of the Appeal To Reason

Appeal to Reason Site

A large brick building was on this site and was used by the Appeal To Reason newspaper in 1896. Its publisher was J.A. Wayland, a Socialist. About 750,000 copies were mailed out weekly in 1913 all across the world and was the largest circulated newspaper at this time.
