Outdoor drama was first performed here in Chapel Hill's Battle Park in 1916 to celebrate the 300th anniversary of Shakespeare's death. The theatre was rebuilt in the early 1940s and is now used for various other events and weddings. Free admission to the theatre, however, there is a cost to see any plays there (normally during the summer months).
