McAlester, Oklahoma

The McAlester Building Foundation, in the old McAlester High School building, contains the Coal Miners Museum and several rooms of memorabilia. Featured are a series of historical exhibits organized in chronological order with hands-on displays including a collection of Native American artifacts, an exhibit detailing military history from the Civil War to present, and a high school memorabilia/graduate hall of fame section.

Open events are held each year including the Coal Miners Reunion, The Indian Festival, Heritage Day and the Ole Fashioned Christmas.

J. I. Stipe Recreational Center

The J.I. Stipe Recreational Center features separate exercise rooms for men and women each with equipment, showers, lockers and saunas. There is a racquetball court and basketball court as well as swimming pool. The Senior Citizens Center facilities included cafeteria, kitchen, and game room.
