Children's Discovery Center

As part of the Allen County Museum Complex. the Children's Discovery Center offers a Native American wigwam, one-room schoolhouse, general store, log cabin, model railroad layout, classroom, and a large activity area. Learn how to send a telegram or share a message using the whisper tube.

Groups and school field trips are welcome with advanced scheduling. Please call the Museum to schedule your group.

A restored narrow-gauge geared locomotive, known as the Shay Locomotive, was built in 1925 by the Lima Locomotive Works and is located at the Allen County Museum Complex.

For a period of almost 70 years, the Lima Locomotive Works built 2,761 Shay locomotives, the last in 1945
