Crowne Plaza San Marcos Golf Resort Located in the heart of Historic Downtown Chandler is the jewel of Dr. Chandler's dream, the San Marcos Hotel. Built in 1913 in the Spanish Mission style popular at the time, the San Marcos opened with international dignitaries, celebrities and royalty present. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it has maintained the same type of guest list ever since, having welcomed such famous, and infamous, celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart, Ronald Reagan and Al Capone through its grand and glorious doors. The San Marcos Hotel is now the San Marcos Golf Resort and is home to Arizona's original grass golf course.
