Kansas Quilt Walk

category : Arts
The art of quilt making figures strongly in the history of our early pioneers. The "Kansas Quilt Walk" was developed to both honor and celebrate our pioneering history and spirit.

Kansas, Kansas Dugout, Farmer's Daughter, Kansas Troubles, Kansas Star, Windmill and Rocky Road to Kansas ... are the names of seven historic quilt patterns that adorn the sidewalks around Lafayette Park at the Courthouse Square.

The quilt patterns were chosen because they reflect the early settlement history of Great Bend which was founded in 1872. The Rocky Road to Kansas quilt is the oldest pattern shown in the quilt walk and dates back to the Santa Fe Trail.

The following is a location map of each quilt. A self-guided walking tour brochure is available to visitors. 620-792-2750.
