Lake Ashtabula Camping

The Corps of Engineers operates seven recreation areas at Lake Ashtabula, providing a variety of facilities and services, as well as actively manages 14 separate wildlife areas at Lake Ashtabula.
There are three designated swimming areas around the lake. Seven boat launching ramps are maintained to provide boaters and fisherman access to all areas of the lake. Picnic facilities and playgrounds are located at most sites. All sites have access to drinking water and rest rooms.
East Ashtabula Campground
The East Ashtabula Campground and recreation area is located on 12 developed acres adjacent to Lake Ashtabula. There are 38 campsites located throughout the campground; 33 of these campsites offer electrical hookups. The campground features a picnic shelter, comfort station (equipped with flush toilets and showers), potable rural water, playground, beach and swimming area, and a vault privy. The courtesy dock and boat ramp is located at the parking lot adjacent to the campground. A camp host is located across the road from the campground.
Important Information - Reservations must be made at least 2 days in advance. This campground requires a 2 day minimum stay on weekends. This campground requires a 3 day minimum stay on holiday weekends. The campground is open from May through September and the sites range from $12-$14/night. No alcohol is allowed in the campground.
Getting There - The main route is via Interstate 94 to Valley City exit #292. From Valley City, follow the signs and take County Road 21 North 14 miles.
Mel Rieman Campground
The Mel Rieman Campground and recreation area is located on 70 acres adjacent to Baldhill Dam. There are 21 campsites located throughout the campground; 10 of these campsites offer electrical hookups. There is potable water and vault privies located within the campground. The Day Use Area which is located in a close proximity to the campground offers a visitor center with flush toilets, showers, swimming beach, volleyball, horseshoe and playground areas, picnic shelter, concessionaire, fish cleaning station, and a boat ramp and courtesy dock.
Important Information- Reservations must be made at least 2 days in advance. The campground is open from May through September and the sites range from $12-$14/night. The campsites in the North and South Ravines are restricted to walk-in camping only.
Getting There - The main route is via Interstate 94 to Valley City exit #292. From Valley City, take a left once you go under the Railroad Bridge, then follow County Road 19 along the valley for 12 miles.
