29 Poker Run - Motorcycle riders from around the region will gather between 10 a.m. and noon for this annual event. $25 for rider, $35 for rider and passenger. Includes cookout and t-shirts (while they last).

From I-77, take exit 83 (northbound traffic only) or exit 85 to US 21 north and climb the mountain to Sparta, about 30 miles. Take NC 18 south at center of town. Go 14 miles to Stations Inn on the left.

15 Thistle Meadow Wine Festival - Sample wines from Thistle Meadow and other area wineries. Admission $5, includes complimentary glass. Pre-festival buffet at 11:30a.

From I-77 take exit 83 (northbound traffic only) or exit 85 to US 21 north. Follow 28 miles up the mountain to Sparta, NC. At the second stoplight, take a left onto NC 18 South towards Laurel Springs. Follow NC 18 South for approximately 11 miles, then take a left onto Elk Knob Road (SR 1143) at junction with NC 113. Follow Elk Knob Road for about 0.3 mile; take the first driveway to the right, then take the first left on that driveway.
