Roebke Historical Home

category : Historic Homes
Roebke Historical Home A companion house to the Jackson County Historical Museum, the Roebke Historical Home is a carefully restored turn-of-the-century home housing special exhibits, including an extensive collection of fine
Victorian era clothing, a children's room, a lace room, and several other rooms.

Louis Roebke, Sr. (1845-1926) came to the United States from Stadthagen, North Germany, near Hanover, about 1865. He came to Holton in 1870, and he built the original house in 1876 for his bride, Kate Sollner (1852-1940). Mr. Roebke was a cabinet maker who made and sold coffins as a part of the Roebke Furniture Store and Funeral Home. After the parents retired from the business, Doris Roebke and her sister Charlotte operated the furniture store until the 1950s when it was sold.
