Brit Spaugh Park And Zoo

category : Zoos
Brit Spaugh Park And Zoo Tucked in Brit Spaugh Park on North Main, the Zoo is great Bend's little jewel. Dedicated to the conservation, preservation and rescue of animals and the education and entertainment of both children and adults, the Zoo is a natural resource for Great Bend and its visitors.

The Zoo is home to over 100 mammals, birds, reptiles and insects. From regal bald eagles to adorable ponies, the Zoo shelters these creatures and gives us a chance to observe and learn about the animals we share the world with. Brit Spaugh Park and Zoo is unique for several reasons ... the Park and Zoo are free to everyone and there is wildlife throughout the park. Driving, or walking, you can have an enjoyable visit. (all areas are also stroller and wheelchair accessible).

PRIDE OF GREAT BEND - A pride of three lions, a male and two females, live in a natural habitat constructed just for them. The lions were hand-raised at the Zoo and their area invites visitors to view their majesty from many angles.

BEARS & MOUNTAIN LIONS - In 1998, the Zoo constructed two new habitats featuring Black bears and mountain lions. The zoo is also home to the only grizzly bear in the world featured in LIFE Magazine.

CHILDREN'S PETTING ZOO - Enjoy petting and feeding goats, ponies & pot-bellied pigs.

HOOFED STOCK - The Zoo features a large variety of hoofed animals, mostly from North America, in a separate area open to visitors during Park hours. Included in the collection are zebra, llamas, elk and American Bison. The hoofed stock area is surrounded by a pleasant, paved, walking path.

MORE ANIMALS - The Zoo also features reptiles, bald and golden eagles, a Bengal tiger, African crowned cranes, coyotes, Canadian lynx, monkeys and many other animals to educate and entertain.

FESTIVALS - The Park & Zoo are the perfect backdrop for the family festivals the city hosts. Spring brings the annual Children's Festival and Spring Craft Show on the Saturday before Mother's Day and the Saturday before Halloween is Zoo Boo ... when ghosts and goblins invade the Park & Zoo and everyone has a horribly good time. Check to see of something special is going on when you visit the Park.

TOURS & PROGRAMS - Get up close and personal with a guided tour of the Zoo or a program presented just for your group. Call 316-793-4160 for rates and reservations.

Brit Spaugh Park and Zoo encompasses 46 acres and includes recreation opportunities for everyone. Scattered through the park you'll find the Zoo, picnic areas with grills, horseshoe pits, tennis and basketball courts, swimming pool, softball diamonds and a variety of playground equipment.
