26 - 27 Annual Osa Johnson Film Festival - Activities at the annual Safari Film Festival begin Friday evening with The African Queen Bogey and Hepburn in Technicolor!

Thanks to Jane Brophy and the Chanute Area Chamber of Commerce and Office of Tourism a petting zoo returns to the east side of the depot on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Also, artisans including Robyn Z of KS Yardbirds and weaver Anne Neff will be doing demonstrations Saturday morning in the depot lobby beginning at 11 a.m.

The film festival continues with Saturday afternoon matinees presented at the Martin and Osa Johnson Safari Museum. At 1:30 p.m. The Roots of Heaven…1958 Errol Flynn – Orson Welles – Trevor Howard.

The Saturday night feature will be Excerpts & full episodes of Osa Johnson’s Big Game Hunt, which was the first Wildlife Documentary series on US TV! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puulZiKowuk

27 Chanute Expo - Fashion Shows...Display Booths...Live Entertainment...Demonstrations...$500 contest! 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

As part of the Chanute Expo, the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center will host a Health Fair from 9-11. Participants must be 18 years or older and 12-14 hour fasting is required for lab work.

Neosho County Community College will be the host site for both the Safari Museum Film Fest and the Chanute Expo. In addition there will be a number of family geared fun and activities on campus including:

27 Safari Family Fun Day - Join us for our annual Safari Family Fun Day! All over downtown Chanute there will be a number of fun events - from a Petting Zoo to a welding rodeo to The Father of Aviation, Octave Chanute speaking at the Santa Fe Depot - scheduled all day!

9:30-5pm: Take a Book Safari! The Chanute Public Library will put up a Story Walk around the depot grounds for guests to read while getting their feet in motion!

10-5: The Safari Museum will be OPEN FREE to the Public

10-5: The Safari Museum will host our Annual RUBBER DUCK HUNT for kids...any child 6-12 that comes to the museum, completes a fun search for hidden rubber ducks in the museum will get one FREE entry into the museum's Annual ADVENTURE DUCK RACE scheduled to be held Saturday August 5th. Winners need not be present, so be sure to participate in the hunt whether you plan to come to the race or not!

11-12: Octave Chanute will be live and in person - thanks to Historic Interpreter Bill Nicks - and making his debut speech in the town named for him. Weather dependent, we plan to have Octave speaking behind the Santa Fe Depot, with bleacher seating provide for his audience. We would like to thank Warren Alford, the Chanute Historical Society Museum, the Chanute Public library, and Lloyd Zimmer Books & Maps for donating money to help our museum cover the costs of Octave's safe travel to Chanute!

11-5pm: The Chanute Art gallery OPEN HOUSE

11-2: The Kramer Petting Zoo will be back at the Safari Museum thanks to funding by the Chanute Area Chamber of Commerce and Office of Tourism!

29 Quilt Month in Chanute - Quilt month started years ago by the Chanute Art Gallery. 12 different quilts loaned by local and area quilters in the gallery each week. "Quilting Day in the Chanute Art GAllery" is October 1st, 9am-9pm. Everyone is invited whether a beginner or a pro! Bring your quilting ideas whether it is completed work or beginning pieces. 29 Christmas Festival - Christmas trees and manger scenes, lights and music! "Children's Christmas Room" Santa, his sleigh, elves, reindeer, and children's trees. Local school students trees, winter village, and their paintings. Coloring contest, open house, Christmas luncheon, men chefs bake sale, unique gift shop with original paintings, pottery, sculpture, jewelry, dolls, ornaments, darling books and "Doing" gifts for the children. Beautiful and Fun!

Christmas Activities are held throughout the month. Famous in the Art Gallery is the "Men Chef Bake Sale" and the "Christmas Luncheon" is for everyone.
