24Stand Against Racism - Join us the last Friday of April each year as we kick-off the day by serving a light Continental breakfast at the YWCA! We will learn from a panel of immigrants from countries ranging from Colombia, to Samoa, to the Phillipines and Mexico. Our panel will discuss what their experiences were like, as they immigrated to our country and our community. It will be an enlightening event.

Stand Against Racism is a national event that began in Trenton NJ in 2006. It is a movement across the country with the am of bringing people together from all walks of life - to raise awareness that racism still exists.

25Walk Against Racism - Join us at 8:30 am Saturday after the annual "Stand Against Raciasm" on the last Friday as we "Walk Against Racism" from the YWCA south on Locust St, to Skagway and then back to the YWCA.

Musical entertainment, Morgan Woode of Fanti Way will conclude the walk, as well as light refreshments.

12Wine, Women and Purses - The live and silent purse auction will be held at the YWCA.

We are now accepting new and gently used purses, scarves and jewelry for this event. Items may be dropped off at the YWCA any time prior to May 27.

Wine, Women and Purses is a fun night out with women, for women and by women. Canapés and desserts will be served during the event, with wine tasting from the Prairie Creek Winery and live music from Joan McKee. We expect to auction almost 200 purses, accessories and wine-related items at this event with something for every budget.

Younker’s will provide a fashion show and door prizes throughout the evening. Gene Graves will serve as Celebrity Auctioneer for a few select items.

Please attend this community event. Stop by for a glass of wine, browse the many items available and meet other women in our community. Funds raised at this event will support programs of the YWCA including financial literacy for children, families and women in crisis.

Tickets are $15 prior to the event or $20 at the door. Special reserved, preferred seating tickets will be available (table of 8 for $200) and includes early admission, a special raffle drawing and table perks for all those with these tickets.

11Moo-Claw - Moo-Claw is Grand Island's signature surf and turf event, featuring delicious grilled Nebraska steaks and fresh lobster flown in from the East coast. The mid-July event has been Heartland United Way's largest fundraiser for nearly 10 years and is attended by about 700 community members annually. 8Annual Duck Derby - The duck derby is a fund raising event that has grown into a community festival. Duck adoptions will be available for $5 each. The winners will receive prizes valued between $100 and $2,500. Proceeds benefit Leadership Tomorrow and Youth Leadership Tomorrow. There will be children's games, activities and food vendors. Doors open at 8:30AM and the duck derby begins at 10AM. Families can enjoy FREE carnival type games with prizes. Area organizations also provide activities such as an obstacle course and large blow-up jumper.
